THE ARTS

Starfire integrates the Arts into all STEAM programming. Find examples of recent Arts based classes below!

Art & DesigN

Students are introduced to design concepts by engaging in hands-on activities that encourage creativity and critical thinking. They explore perspective, symmetry, geometric patterns through three-dimensional art, Origami, furniture design and cultural art.

Computer Music composition and production

Students learn the basics of constructing musical arrangements with the help of internet-based software and computer-specific techniques. Instruction in Starfire’s Computer Music class is creative and hands-on—emphasis is placed on the student’s creation of original music. Open-source technology’s accessibility, ease of use and creative potential are a strong vehicle for student’s self-expression through music composition and production.

Drawing for Future Illustrators and Animators

In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of drawing. They will practice how to define forms and shapes in order to create exciting, dynamic characters. Students will be using a number of techniques used by illustrators and animators around the world, from hand-drawn methods to pixel art. Students should come to class with sheets of blank paper, pencils, at least one pen, and any other drawing tools they would like to use. No previous drawing experience required!

Yoga for Kids - STEAM meets Yoga

STEAM education encompasses learning about everything that is happening around us, including understanding biological and physiological practices necessary for wellbeing. Starfire Yoga is an enriching experience for children. Through a practice of strengthening and stretching poses, deep breathing and meditation, students learn perseverance, patience and to work toward their goals. A growing body of research has shown that yoga can improve focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour, and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children. Starfire students find balance and focus in our Yoga class.
