FAQs FOR THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

Is the virtual classroom a good learning experience for my child?

Starfire Virtual classes are held on Zoom. Zoom is well suited for educational instruction: teachers can share screens and whiteboards, poll students, establish breakout rooms, and implement many other powerful instruction techniques. Classes can be accessed at a later time for review. Everything and more that can be done in the physical classroom can be done on Zoom virtually.

How can I register my child?

Starfire Education is registering students on our new proprietary registration and payment platform. Our new registration and payments platform is built on the Salesforce K-12 Education Architecture. Your family’s privacy and data security are protected on our platform. Starfire classes are no longer listed on Homeroom. Registration for classes is exclusively available at: https://starfireed.secure.force.com/ClassRegistration/

How can I improve my student’s classroom experience?

Maximize your student’s experience by registering for the Parent Portal. You will be able to access important information, communicate with your child’s teacher and share important data about your child’s character, learning needs and goals with their teacher. Empowered with this information, your child's teacher will be able to enhance your child's learning experience.

How do I join the class? Where is my link?

Once enrolled with Starfire, you will receive a confirmation email with calendar invite for class. You can always view your Zoom link in the Parent Portal. Your child’s teacher will also email you the link in their welcome letter before class. The link provided in the welcome letter may be used to access future classes. If you are having trouble joining class, contact us at support@starfireed.com or contact the class teacher using the cellphone details provided in your welcome letter.

What does my child need for class?

Please provide a device to view the live virtual video class using Zoom. Zoom works on mobile devices. It isn't necessary to download the Zoom app.

If available, please find a quiet location for your child to sit. Expect that your child will need assistance and light supervision.

Are teachers available for tutoring?

Starfire teachers are available to provide personalized academic coaching. Please get in touch to schedule a consultation.

What is the cancellation policy?

Starfire is unable to refund registration fees. Our refund policy is established in reference to our small virtual classroom size. Once a “seat” in class has been allocated at the beginning of the session, it is not available to other students for the remainder of the session. We will work our hardest to accommodate requests to transfer students from one Starfire class to another during the first week of our session.

Starfire is unable to offer make-ups for missed sessions. We are not able to make exceptions.

What about privacy and security?

We take the privacy and security of our classrooms seriously. Starfire uses the The Stanford University guidelines for our Zoom-hosted classes to address the need for increased security and prevent "Zoombombing”.

What is Zoom’s Privacy policy for K-12 users?

Zoom is particularly committed to protecting the privacy of our K-12 users. Zoom has established guardrails to protect K-12 students using our services through their schools for their education. Zoom has a special policy that describes its handling of personal data from K-12 students who are using Zoom through their schools. This special policy is designed to reflect our compliance with the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and other applicable laws. If you are a school administrator or teacher, please refer to this important policy: Zoom for K-12 Schools & Districts Privacy Policy.

Aside from providing services to K-12 students through school subscribers as discussed above, Zoom does not knowingly allow children under the age of 16 to sign up for their own accounts. If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe your child has given us information, you can contact Zoom at privacy@zoom.us, and they will take appropriate steps to investigate and address the issue.
