FUN WITH STEAM LABS

Starfire students work on a fun, hands-on project based challenges. These labs are a great way to include dynamic and enjoyable STEAM material into your child’s learning experience.

Check out our recent Fun with STEAM Labs below!

Catapult Challenge - Storm the Castle!

In a fun, creative challenge, students use the engineering design process to build a mini catapult while gaining real world experience with the concepts of accuracy, precision and projectile motion. (Gr. 2-5)

DNA at Dinner - Learn about Life’s Building Blocks

DNA is the hereditary material in all cells. Starfire’s fun experiment using common household materials allows students to isolate DNA from fruit! (Gr. 4-8)

Guided by the Sun

Students meet at the intersection of history and engineering to investigate the movement of the sun, “clock time”, and our modern time measurement instruments! A fun and hands-on craft. (Gr. 3-6)

Lava Lamp Challenge - Swinging 60s and Polarity!

A mesmerizing and hands-on experiment gives kids the chance to explore density and buoyancy with a groovy craft. (Gr. 3-5)

Lego Engineering challenge

Students explore engineering concepts to improve problems solving skills by entering the exciting universe of LEGO learning! The LEGO Engineering Challenge class focuses on using the engineering design process to come up with original constructions. (Gr. 2-6)

Meet me at the Coordinates

The coordinate plane and shapes are important concepts in geometry. Students will get to grasp this math concept in a fun, creative way. (Gr. 4-6)

Movement, Music and Math

This class is for K-3rd graders who are new to fractions and music. Math is present in many aspects of music, and learning music has been shown to increase math skills. Over the course of 2 sessions, students will explore rhythm and fractions through movements like walking and running. (Gr. K-3)

Tower Challenge - Civil Engineering design in action!

Students act as civil engineers as they design and build towers in an fun exercise that parallels real world challenges faced by today’s engineers. (Gr. 3-8)

Intro to Video Game Design in Python

Basics of Game Designing. Students learn what is a game loop, how to create different characters of the game and assign their movements. Students get an introduction to how to add important statistics like score, points, and lives in the game. Previous Python experience suggested. (Gr. 5-9)
